Revelation 2:8-11
Message #4 – SERIES: Revelation of Jesus Have you ever suffered for Jesus? The Bible is clear that suffering is the norm for those who follow Jesus, and if we're not suffering now we should be prepared for it when it comes. Revelation 2:8-11 records some of what Jesus has to say about suffering. -
Revelation 2:1-7
Message #3 – SERIES: Revelation of Jesus The letter to the church in Ephesus is the first of Jesus' seven edicts to churches in Revelation. Ephesus was all truth and no love. Jesus challenges them and us to connect our head to heart: Remembering our first love, repenting, and returning to the ways we loved at first. -
The Lord is My Shepherd
Message #4 of 7 – SERIES: Rest Psalm 23 is likely the most well-known and popular passage in all of Scripture. We look at its teaching about our Good Shepherd, Jesus, and how we can rest because he knows, feeds, leads, and protects us. He is in full control. -
Joshua 22:1-34
Message #16 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day In Joshua 22, the Eastern Tribes of Israel cause an uproar when they build a monument to remind future generations of their identity as part of Israel. After initially wanting war, the Western Tribes demonstrate a godly means of pursuing peace. We look at some biblical principles of peacemaking. -
Joshua 13:1-21:45 (Part 2: Inheritance)
Message #15 of 18 - SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day Joshua 13-21 is the account of the Israelites receiving their inheritance. This week we trace the Israelites' inheritance back to a promise God made to Abraham. Similarly, the inheritance offered to Christians can be traced back to Abraham through Jesus Christ. -
Joshua 13:1-21:45 (Part 1: Identity)
Message #14 of 18 - SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day Joshua 13-21 is the account of the Israelites receiving their inheritance. In this first week on this passage, we look at the biblical teaching on our identity in Jesus Christ as image bearers of God. Our inheritance will be based on this identity. -
Joshua 10:1-43
Message #11 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day Pastor Stephen C. James teaches from the interesting historical record of the sun standing still for Joshua and the armies of Israel. When faced with an impossible spiritual mission, we must respond with big prayers and big actions. Human effort combined with divine power creates and unstoppable force for positive change. -
Joshua 9:1-27
Message #10 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day Pastor Tim Cressman teaches from Joshua 9:1-27. This narrative from God’s Word teaches that there is often opposition when God is at work. It gives us an example of what happens when godly leaders drop the ball. And it tells us that God’s heart is for those who are far from him. -
Joshua 8:1-35
Message #9 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day "The Fruit of Following God's Words" Chuck Warren teaches on Joshua 8:1-35. There are four important themes in the book of Joshua: The book is a lesson on the covenant faithfulness of Jehovah. It demonstrates the importance of the written word of God. It points out the utter failure of human effort apart from divine directives. And it is a commentary on God's holiness and His judgment of sin. -
Joshua 5:13-15
Message #7 of 18 – SEREIS: Joshua: Choose This Day Before the battles begin, Joshua encounters Jesus, the Commander of the LORD's army. Jesus is First. Our command from Jesus is to make disciples (Matthew 28:16-20). Are you busy making disciples for Jesus? Or just making a point for Jesus? -
Joshua 5:1-12
Message #6 of 18 – SEREIS: Joshua: Choose This Day After crossing the Jordan River, the Lord commands Joshua to stop and circumcise all of the men. This had originally been commanded as part of the Abrahamic Covenant in Genesis 17, but the previous generation failed to obey this command after leaving Egypt. We discuss the meaning of circumcision in Scripture and its parallels with baptism, and learn from Joshua's obedient faith and his commitment to passing it on to coming generations. -
Joshua 2:1-24
Message #4 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day Joshua sends two men into the land as spies to prep before the people cross the Jordan. In Jericho they meet a prostitute named Rahab who helps them with lodging and an escape from the city. In Joshua 2 God saves, redeems, and uses very ordinary people. -
Joshua 1:10-18
Message #3 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day In Joshua 1 we see a vivid example of how God expects spiritual authority to work among his people. In all things, God is our ultimate authority, just as he was Joshua's and all of Israel's. Joshua is a good leader who submits to God's authority, obeys him, and works to foster unity among the people he is leading. -
Joshua 1:1-9
Message #2 of 18 - SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day Moses is dead, and Joshua is in. After years of waiting, wandering, and suffering because of the sinfulness of a previous generation, Joshua is given the green light to enter the Promised Land with God's people. Joshua is to remember God's continual presence, he is to be strong and courageous, and most importantly he is to be obedient. -
Introduction to Joshua
Message #1 of 18 – SERIES: Joshua: Choose This Day This message sets up the background for the Old Testament book of Joshua and the man Joshua. Joshua is a book about Jesus, and our continual need to choose him over our idols. Will Jesus be First or will you? Make a choice. -
Whoever Has Ears, Let Them Hear
We're all image bearers of God designed to reflect and image Jesus. Just as a mirror can only reflect and image what it is focused on, the same is true for us. We only image and reflect what it is we point our lives at, that is, what we worship. What are you focused on? Will you worship and image Jesus, or worship and image your idols? -
Jesus Our Redeemer
Sometimes it seems like a weird detail that Jesus, Joseph, and Mary escaped to Egypt to avoid Herod's insanity in Matthew 2, but the reason was to fulfill prophecy and to identify Jesus with his people. In the original Exodus of the Old Testament God redeemed his people from the captivity of Pharaoh. It all foreshadowed the new exodus where God redeems his people from the captivity of sin by the finished work of Jesus on the cross. (Matthew 2:13-15) -
The Wise Men, The Fool, and Grace
Jesus would have been a toddler at the time a group of "wise men" from the east showed up at his mother's door to worship the boy born as King of the Jews. Their journey was costly and the gifts they brought were incredibly valuable. Herod the Great (appointed by Rome to rule in that region as "King of the Jews") was troubled by their arrival when he learned that a threat to his throne had been born nearby. But Jesus' mother, Mary, would have experienced their arrival as an incredible expression of God's grace and steadfast love. (Matthew 2:1-12) -
The Birth of Jesus & The Obedience of Joseph
Matthew writes his gospel to a Jewish audience, and tends to focus on Joseph in his account of Jesus' first coming. The obedience of Jesus' adopted dad, Joseph, is a great example for us. He loved his wife Mary well and he was quick to obey God when God spoke to him. God speaks to us primarily through his written Word, and we, like Joseph, need to believe his Word and act upon it, no matter how we feel, because God promises a good result. (Matthew 1:18-25) -
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
Why does God include genealogies in the Bible? In Jesus' family tree are prostitutes, noblemen, cowards, warriors, redeemers, murderers & kings… and Jesus would be Savior of them all. No matter who you are or what you've done, Jesus loves you, can save you, and will use you to build his Kingdom. (Matthew 1:1-17) -
Membership Class: Why Should I Pursue Membership?
Part #12 of Membership Class: Why Should I Pursue Membership? – In this session we cover the mission of the church (Great Commission, Great Commandment); the structure of Wawasee Bible; why a person should consider church membership; and finally we walk through the Membership Covenant. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #10 - Concerning Response and Eternal Destiny
Part #11 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning Response and Eternal Destiny – In this session we cover the tenth article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #9 - Concerning Christ's Return
Part #10 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning Christ's Return – In this session we cover the ninth article of our Statement of Faith: We believe in the personal, bodily and premillennial return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #8 - Concerning Christian Living
Part #9 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning Christian Living – In this session we cover the eighth article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #7 - Concerning The Church
Part #8 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning The Church – In this session we cover the seventh article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #6 - Concerning The Holy Spirit
Part #7 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning The Holy Spirit – In this session we cover the sixth article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christlike living and service. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #5 - Concerning The Work of Jesus Christ
Part #6 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning The Work of Jesus Christ – In this session we cover the fifth article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #4 - Concerning Jesus Christ
Part #5 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning Jesus Christ – In this session we cover the fourth article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus-Israel’s promised Messiah-was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #3 - Concerning The Human Condition
Part #4 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning The Human Condition – In this session we cover the third article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #2 - Concerning The Bible
Part #3 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning The Bible – In this session we cover the second article of our Statement of Faith: We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises. -
Membership Class: What We Believe #1 - Concerning God
Part #2 of Membership Class: What We Believe Concerning God – In this session we cover the first article of our Statement of Faith: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory. -
The New Covenant
The crown of all the covenants is the New Covenant. The New Covenant is the Gospel. It is God's incredible grace and mercy given to us in Jesus. The writer of Hebrews tells us that the New Covenant is a better covenant, founded upon better promises—because the one keeping both sides of the agreement is God himself, and God never breaks his promises. -
God's Covenant with David
God promises a Kingdom that will last forever to David in 2 Samuel 7. And the King who will reign and rule that Kingdom forever will come through David's lineage. And that King will be and is Jesus. As citizens of Jesus' Kingdom, now, and as a church that serves as an outpost of his Kingdom, we are to be all about honoring, serving, and loving our King. In short, it's all about Jesus! -
God's Covenant with Moses
We cover a very large portion of Scripture this week. Our focus in the Covenant series is to see God's pursuing love, his covenantal love toward his people. The story of Passover and the Exodus is one of the clearest demonstrations of this in all of Scripture, foreshadowing plainly the coming life, ministry, and work of Jesus. Multiple applications are spread throughout the message this week, and we wrap with a focus on forgiveness. -
God's Covenant with Abraham
Message #5 – SERIES: Covenant Abram was a sinful and idolatrous man for most of his life before meeting Jesus. God rescues him from his sin and calls him to follow him, leaving everything he ever knew at the ripe old age of 75. God would give Abram a son by the womb of his barren wife, Sarai. He changes their names to Abraham and Sarah and through their line in Isaac promises a coming Redeemer in Jesus. Though he was sinful and often full of doubt, God drew near to Abraham time and time again in covenant love as his protector and great reward. -
God's Covenant with Noah
Message #4 – SERIES: Covenant The story of Noah is the story of the Gospel. Noah is saved by God's grace, and his rescue foreshadows our own rescue by Jesus. God's covenant with Noah demonstrates his relentless pursuing love and his vow to keep his promises—both to those who trust Jesus and to those who reject Jesus. -
The Marriage Covenant
Message #3 – SERIES: Covenant The covenant of marriage is a reflection of God's covenantal love with us. Marriage is God's idea. It is intended to be an unconditional and unbreakable lifetime commitment between one man, one woman, and God himself. Biblical marriage is the foundation upon which family, culture, government, and society is built. -
God's Covenant with Adam
Message #2 – SERIES: Covenant God's covenant with Adam can be found in Genesis 1-3. God promises a savior to redeem us and deal with our sin. During the first part of this message, Pastor Josh lays out our plan to revise and restructure Church Membership at Wawasee Bible in the Fall of 2011. -
The Wise & Faithful Manager (Luke 12:35-48)
Message #4 of 4 - SERIES: Money: God or Gift? Jesus demonstrates both his compassion and his authority in this passage. While he desires to serve us, he requires we remain faithful. We are to wait ready for his return, stewarding our lives, our time, talent, and treasure until the Master returns. (And he is returning!) Would you live and give in the same way if you believed Jesus were returning tomorrow? -
Life Is More Than Food (Luke 12:22-34)
Message #3 of 4 - SERIES: Money: God or Gift? This week we look at Jesus' commands again anxiety, worry, and fear, as well as his exhortation not to set our hearts on "stuff". Instead, we should set our minds and hearts on eternal things, for "where our treasure is, there will our heart be also." -
The Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21)
Message #2 of 4 - SERIES: Money: God or Gift? Jesus warns us against covetousness can calls us to be content. The example of the Rich Fool reminds us not to merely be rich toward ourselves, but to be rich toward God. For more on this passage, check out "The Parable of the Rich Fool" by Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church, Seattle. You can download, watch, or listen to it here: http://goo.gl/Tsnlb Pastor Josh borrowed many insights from Pastor Mark's teaching in this message. -

Colossians 3:22–4:1
Message #20 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First In this week's study, Paul teaches on Jesus being First outside the home, addressing the relationships between a slave and their master. In our context, this will correspond most to our work place (be it a formal job, a volunteer position, or an informal job inside the home). Jesus is First at Work. -
Colossians 3:18-21
Message #19 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First In this week's study, Paul extends his teaching on living like Jesus to the home. We look at one of the powder keg issues of Scripture this week, studying biblical gender roles in the home. We explore what biblical submission is and is not, and what biblical headship is and is not as it relates to husbands and wives. -
Colossians 3:12-17
Message #18 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First This week we look at the other side of Paul's exhortation to "Dress the Part" as a follower of Jesus. Not only should we put off and kill our sin, but we need to replace it with something, and put on the new self. -
Colossians 3:1-11
Message #17 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First In Chapter 3, Paul goes into practical application as he compares the change that ought to take place in the life of a believer with a change of clothes. Off with the old, on with the new. We look this week at killing sin, taking off the old self, by "fighting pleasure with pleasure" (the fleeting pleasure of sin vs. the eternal pleasure of Jesus). -
Colossians 2:16-23
Message #16 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First This week we look at Paul's exhortation to "hold fast to the Head"—to hold fast to Jesus—in light of the false teaching that was affecting the Colossian church. FYI, our time was cut short this morning due to the "Seeking Things Above" presentation that preceded the message. -
Colossians 2:13-15
Message #15 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First On Easter Resurrection Sunday, we explore some facts concerning the resurrection, then dive into Colossians 2:13-15 where we see that the record of sin for which Jesus died was not his own, but ours. And by his death and resurrection, our record of sin can be set aside, cancelled, and forgiven as Jesus pays it in full! -
Colossians 2:8-12
Message #14 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First This week Paul encourages us to test everything according to Jesus and not be taken captive by empty, false teaching. This extends even to our understanding of who we are as believers and our identity in Jesus Christ. We are filled and made complete in Jesus. -
Philemon
Message #13 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First Pastor Tim Cressman is our guest this week as he preaches from the book of Philemon. When Paul sent his letter to the church in Colossae, he included a personal letter for a man who lived in Colossae named Philemon. In the letter, Paul pleaded with Philemon to restore his relationship with Onesimus, demonstrating that Jesus is First. – If it’s true that Jesus is First, then it should have some bearing on how we live our lives! The simple truth of the preeminence of Christ should create some traction in every-day life. Philemon serves as a case-study: will the Gospel be enough to overcome ingrained social-structures and restore the broken relationships that could never normally be restored? Is Jesus really enough? -
Colossians 2:1-7
Message #12 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First Paul's desire is for the people in Colossae to Learn Continually. We apply some Wawasee Bible vocabulary to Paul's teaching in Colossians 2:1-7: A Fully Devoted Follower of Jesus Christ is to LEARN CONTINUALLY about Jesus, and LEARN CONTINUALLY to image Jesus. -
Colossians 1:24-29
Message #11 of 22 – SERIES: Colossians: Jesus is First Paul is clear that his goal is to proclaim Jesus and present everyone fully mature on the last day. He has suffered, is suffering, and expects to suffer more for the sake of Christ, but it is all worth it because his focus is the last day. -

About Baptism
A brief overview of the Bible's teaching about baptism. This was recorded on Sunday, January 30, 2011. The "who what when why how" as we see it.
